I completed this quilt top today. It is size full. Made with fat quarters from Surf and Sand by Marcus Brothers using the Yellow Brick Road pattern. I need to buy the backing and batting, and then find someone to quilt it.

Frenchy Bag

This is my Amy Butler Frenchy Bag. I purchased the fabric and pattern as a kit. I do like the way it looks, and it was easy to make. However, I do not like the functionality of the bag. If anything weighty is placed inside, the bag collapses on itself. Perhaps it needs a sturdier interfacing. I used the interfacing recommended on the pattern, even though it was sew-in interfacing and I'd much rather use fusible interfacing. Also the inside pockets are very large (the width of the bag). Anything placed inside them falls out into the center of the bag. I think these pockets need to be sectioned down the middle to make them smaller. I am disappointed with this bag.

Home Improvement Hell

Due to a water leak in our home, I've been in home improvement hell for the last two weeks. Which means, of course, no time for any sewing or quilting. On the bright side, the new changes to the house are very nice.

Before this all began I was working on a "Frenchy Bag" by Amy Butler. I just wanted to update my blog, and hopefully I can get back to some sewing soon and post a picture of the new bag. Most of all I have a quilt sitting here I'd love to have time for.

This was a fun bag to make. Very colorful isn't it? I will be looking for charm packs to make this pattern again. Next time I would like to add some type of closure to it though.

I purchased a charm pack purse pattern and I'm thinking about using this Flea Market Fancy fabric by Free Spirit. I just need to get out and buy some Pellion Fusible Fleece. I haven't been very inspired to sew lately.

I haven't been doing a whole lot of sewing lately, but I made a couple of Wonder Wallets by LazyGirlDesigns and also reupholstered my rocker glider. Now to keep the cat's claws out of it!

Summer Tote

This is the Summer Tote bag by Lazy Girl Designs. I used chocolate brown and pink fabrics by Michael Miller. This was my very first zipper, and with the wonderful directions, it wasn't difficult at all. No more zipper fear! I purchased the Lazy Girl Designs, Wonder Wallet pattern too. Now I can make matching wallets for all my purses. How fun!

Apron

I've been wanting to make an apron for a while and when I saw this 50's Kitchen fabric by Michael Miller it really inspired me to get it done. The pattern is Four Corners Apron by Vanilla House and it was extremely simple. I made an oven mitt and a hot pad using the left over fabric with two layers of InsulBright.

I've been sewing some bags. First I made a Hello Kitty purse for my neighbors daughter. Next, I made a retro style bag for myself. I'm not exactly sure what I'll use it for, but I'm sure I'll find something.

WIP Wednesday - Update on Cottage Square

The Cottage Square quilt top is completed. I've now got it layered, pinned and ready to quilt. I began learning to make quilts two years ago and the actual quilting part is still very daunting for me. Also, I find maneuvering a quilt this size (72 x 82 in.) around under my machine a bit frustrating and difficult. Therefore, I will keep it simple.

During the NewYear Weekend I got to work on this Cottage Square quilt with pretty pastel florals. It is the Kaye's Cottage collection and the pattern is from Fons & Porter Nov/Dec 2006 issue.

Red, Black and White - Complete!

I've finished this red, black and white tea wall hanging. The camera doesn't take very good pictures with the flash. I'll have to get a better picture in the daytime. I'm glad to have something to put up on this bare wall.

The next project is a wall organizer with pockets to hang next to my three-year-old's bed. He can put his flashlight, books, stuffed animals, etc., in there within reach. I already have all the fabric picked out for it.

QUILTING...

Well, Ive got the red, purple, orange quilt all quilted and now I'm working on the binding.

I've recently made a tote bag.

I'll be making another one for my partner in a Tote Swap.

I've also recently made a "TEATIME" wallhanging. This was a quick one day project. It is hanging in my dining room.

I'm currently working on a "NANTUCKET" wallhanging. I've got all my blocks done, and I'm working on the sashing. I hope this turns out good.

READING...

I have read some great books lately. Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier was fabulous. Then I read Lost by Gregory Maguire which was very good. I'm currently reading The Shadow of the Wind, and it is excellent so far.

Quiltin and Readin Progress

A little preview of what the finished quilt is shaping up to look like.

These are the blocks I'm still working on in my very bright quilt. I'm working on my last eight blocks for a total of 48 (6 x 8). When I'm done with the main blocks, I have 24 border blocks to make. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do the binding in purple. I haven't purchased the backing yet. Haven't decided on that yet exactly.

I'm still reading The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I'm 600 pages in, and it is a 890 page book. Getting there. Enjoying quite nicely, but would like to be done.

I'm currently reading The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. This is a feminist take on the tale of Camelot told from the point of view Morgaine and Geneviere. I'm reading this for my Historical Favorites Bookclub. We are each reading a King Arthur book. The Mists of Avalon has been on on TBR pile for a long time, and I'm finally getting to it! I've never read anything about King Arthur before. Reading this qualifies for my challenge to read "One Doorstopper Per Month in 2006". I'm about 200 pages in on this 800+ page book. More thoughts on this book to come...

I'm working on a Shaded Trail quilt. The colors are purple, red, and orange. It is going to be a bright quilt. I haven't decided what size I'm going to make it yet. I'd love for it to fit the full size bed in the spare bedroom. I'm going to have to see if Joann's has more of this fabric first. I've completed the first 10 blocks, and I'm in the middle of the second set of 10 blocks. I'm paperpiecing this quilt. Lots of work but very fun.
